What is TasGRN?
The Tasmanian Government Radio Network (TasGRN) is a collaborative project to transition eight core user organisations, currently using five separate radio communications networks, onto one unified, digital and interoperable radio network.
The end result will be a more reliable and resilient network enabling the provision of better services to the Tasmanian community.
The TasGRN will deliver an integrated radio network for users in the emergency services, land management and electricity industries. Initial users of the TasGRN will include:
- Tasmania Police;
- Tasmania Fire Service;
- Ambulance Tasmania;
- State Emergency Service;
- Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment;
- Sustainable Timber Tasmania;
- TasNetworks; and,
- Hydro Tasmania
The State Government has signed a contract with Telstra to deliver the Tasmanian Government Radio Network (TasGRN).
Construction of the new network will begin in 2021 with user organisations expected to begin migrating over to the new network in the 2022/2023 financial year.
The Acting Premier issued a media release on 23 December 2020.
